How F1 Sound Is Made
How F1 Sound is made. Formula One cars do sound very special (the V8's, V10's and V12's). But there is some 'trick' behind that screaming Formula 1 exhaust sound, that nobody seems to know about.
But thanks to the supporters of www.maisteers-exhaust-sound-resear.ch - You will find out about it too.

Renault's F1 Anti-Lag System Uncovered
Просмотров 186 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Turbo Anti-Lag Systems are well known today, but at the start of the first Formula 1 Turbo Era there was one, you've never even heard about - the Dispositif Pre*rotation Variable - or short "DPV" engineered by Renault's Formula One engine genius - Jean Pierre Boudy. It's a very clever way to spool up a turbocharger, maybe just as clever as the Subaru “Jet Engine” - Rocket Anti-Lag - but with le...
How to fix the WORST sounding V12 Exhaust
Просмотров 1,5 млн10 месяцев назад
On paper, the idea looked great! Building the first Mercedes 12 into 1 headers to make this M120 V12 sound like a F1 racecar, or at least like a Pagani Zonda. Absolutely not keyword related mentions: Donut Media and effspot insane $12,000 exhaust, nor Brilliant exhaust S600 orJP Performance 500E V12. 9 Months before: Why this V12 sounds better than a $5,000,000 Pagani - ruclips.net/video/ZtcL5u...

Whistlindiesel has a net worth of 3 Ferrari lawsuits stacked on top of a pile of money. But maybe not. You'll be surprised how a destroyed Skyline GTR compares to a pristine '69 Dodge Charger. WhistlinDiesel has collected and destroyed a few vehicles in his quest for good youtube content and now the ChatGPT AI is going to decide which car gets S-Tier and which one F-Tier. what is the 4 cylinder motor you use for testing?
people like that maisteer fella make the world a better place
6:55 do I hear Dr.Dre?
Dude!!! This guy kicks ass! Legend dude 😂
Mr Maisteer, Have you also considered that the length of the MAIN exhaust pipe may also effect the sound as it is related to peak torque onset RPM owing to how it changes exhaust scavenging in each head/ cylinder? The difference in pressure wave induced by by the bore and length of the main pipe could also influence this and accompanying sound. I think the key is in the pulse you need to get a 3D scan tool and scan / get a CAD model of the desired sounding exhaust, then put that into some pressure wave monitoring software and compare it to your exhaust and see what it tells you. Also there must be a sound centric software of the same thing too. Finally to speed up testing protypes perhaps you can start modeling on RC engines/ smaller scale and use copper tubes (for VERY short intervals obviously) as it is much easier to work with including stretching/ stepping.
This is such an informative and well edited video,I was suprised to see you only have 56k subs, instantly subscribed,I guess no one fucking knows how headers work
Best video of the day
He's a true blue American hero!
I’d love to hear an F20c at 9,000 RPM with a stepped header
My S1000RR NEEDS that exhaust. How do I get it?
Much appreciated all your hard work, research over past years.❤
Ah yes , motordynamics 🧠
I’ve been looking for this video for a long time…. The BMW m5 v10 makes some great music too.
Curious to see how these kinds of headers would work on a boxer engine. Would love to hear a sound like this from my 86.
Toll gemacht 👍
Wait so do you do the step diameters on all cylinders ??
Alright who is going to put stepped headers on a 4 rotor?
You sir have earned a subscriber 😮😮😮
Correct me if I’m wrong, is it a GSXR 600 K7 engine? I used to work on those before and they used to sound so good with just a Yoshimura or an Akrapovick. You just took it to a whole new lever.
Big like for the cookie monster bit with the fag Trudeau
This does work with a normal throttle body as well. Not perfectly, but enough that throttle response after a shift is improved.
So if you make two 6-2-1 headers for that V12, then merge then, even if you only step the primary, you'll have lots of natural steps, and opportunity for the right size choke/megaphone
U dropped something👑
So what would have happened if you had two 6-2-1 headers that merged? My crappy old holden 6 speedway car made smooth BMW noises when it had EFI and 6-2-1 headers with a single straight-through muffler. Others with single carby inlet manifolds and 6-3-1 didn't sound as smooth. Also secondaries are generally sized larger than primaries, so you get natural steps, and all the benefits (possibly audible?) that steps bring, especially if you start the headers off small. Smaller pipes aren't very restrictive near the head if you step up at the right points.
This channel os so underrated wtf
Legend.
Someone tag Quickshift TV.
Why not do a fourier transform analysis on the exhaust you want it to sound like and pick pipe and step lengths that will have standing waves at the same frequencies? Instead of worrying about layout and parts, look at the frequencies and the best way for your engine to get there. If you "must" have 12-1 then why not point the collector forward or down to shorten up the primary pipes?
I want to do this
Amazing. I found this journey once again. unleash the noise!
that honda exhaust set up, fancy sound!
That Mustang around 10 mins is probably the only good sounding American V8 in existence
Well i guess my c15 is getting step headers
I'm not really buying into the whole stepped header theory, there is a lot of contradicting evidence (regarding the sound it generates). At this point I honestly think you need black magic to achieve that howl we all want. Anyways, I have a TB48 which I 3D scanned the engine bay of, and got Pipemax, inputted all the engine's specs and got a good baseline for an exhaust layout. I'm going to build a 6 into 1 sequentially merged equal length headers, with 3 steps (1-5/8 to 1-3/4 to 1-7/8 to 2 inches) at 200mm increments, totaling 800mm primaries. Going to use the program's suggested megaphone and reverse cone specs with no mufflers. I designed the headers with standard bend specs and got a bill of materials now. Just have to source the pipping and weld it up together. I hope it turns out sounding perfect, but we'll see. It redlines out at 5,400 rpm but might upgrade the oil pump gears and harmonic balancer to maybe open it up to 6,000 rpm. That should help the sound a little bit.
Amazing work, always love the videos. You are obviously very talented and dedicated to this! Do you think the answer to the age old question of how to make V6 engines sound good, could be to have 5/6 runners stepped, and get glorious V10 noises out of most of the engine? Small downside, it may sound like an LFA with a dirt bike driving next to it.
im from argentina, im a tig welder, wanna try to copy thats collectors with ours 4cil latam bullshits😂
That rpm gauge youre using is from a motorcycle!
You can hear it straight away even before you rev the 4 cylinder that it is going to sound bonkers.
Time to break out the TIG machine
I clicked on the rubber hose! Awesome video.
07:20 Hi my name is Greg!
I have checked multiple f1 headers design from 90s and maybe I did not spend enough time, but they are not 12 in 1 or 10in1 and still sound great like we all love. And in motorcycle engines there are some smaller diameter pipes connecting for example main exhaust pipes from cylinder 1 and 2 and also 3 and 4. And this is maybe work like steps. Thank you for your effort, you are doing great job
And I thought the japanese guy that do equal length headers charge too much. Looks like they knew something nobody else did.
I play trombone. For me exhaust sound is 1st pitch.... Volume 2nd👽
8:19 The WW2 era P-47 Thunderbolt and P-38 Lightning were both turbocharged...and looked good using them. 😀🇦🇺
Came for the clickbait, stayed for the rest.
On that 65 mustang fastback that sounded like a f1 car, the exhaust pipe after the collector looked like 4 inches or larger. The motor is only a 347ci. Same thing with the hyuara and zonda they both have plenty of flow when you consider the quad exhaust.
@michaelcoxracing figured out a nasty 8-1 sequential header like a decade ago. His 90s broncos sound amazing 🎶🎵
